About Us
Our purpose is to glorify God through winning souls to Christ, through helping His people grow toward Christ-likeness, and through worshiping Him.
What Is a Christian Church?
The story of the name, “Christian Church” is a simple one that dates back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. European Christians from many backgrounds discovered in a new land that there were often few believers of their specific ilk with which to gather, especially as the frontier was being settled. They came together – Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists. Their commitment to finding common ground compelled them to lay aside their labels. (No self-respecting Baptist could call himself a Presbyterian. No Catholic would ever wear the name Methodist, and so forth.) The simple name of “Christian” was unifying. They found a plain sense approach to the simple meanings of the Bible more desirable than any creed. They found that the love of Christ reproduced in His people was strong enough to unite them even when their opinions differed sharply.
What emerged was a powerful movement rooted in this three-fold appeal...
- the unity of all believers,
- the authority of the Word of God,
- and the love of Christ in His church.
Some things you should know
- Our members accept Jesus Christ as the Living Son of God and our Savior.
- We believe the Bible to be our all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and the revelation of God's Word and will.
- We are an independent church. Led by a body of elders, we determine our own strategies for fulfilling our Lord's Great Commission, voluntarily cooperating with others who are also committed to that same cause.
- We are devoted to the cause of Christian unity, and we will work with anyone anywhere on the basis of the Holy Scriptures.
- We require for church membership just what was required in New Testament times, no more, no less.
- We practice baptism only as it is taught and practiced in the Scriptures - immersion of a repentant believer into the symbol of Christ's own death, burial and resurrection.
- We preach "Jesus Christ and Him crucified." You will hear very little of politics or personal prejudice from our pulpit.
- We believe all persons of all races to be created in the image of God, and to need the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
